CKN: Service Function Chaining

Event Summary

Service function chaining (SFC) provides a new framework that enables flexible deployment of NFV services. Using SFC, services can be inserted where they are needed without network topology changes and consumed in a flexible fashion. Further, SFC provides the ability to share rich metadata between services. This metadata can be used for a range of functions, including policy enforcement, visibility, and billing.

In this session we will review the complexity associated with current service deployment; discuss how SFC addresses those issues; and review the core SFC protocol, Network Service Header (NSH), functionality.
