CKN: Orchestration & Automation: Achieving Network Automation with YANG Modeling Technologies

Event Summary

Network management teams are facing unprecedented change because service providers are under pressure from their enterprise customers to deliver and support more agile service offerings. Traditional network operation processes tend to focus on internal processes rather than directly customer-driven requests. Service providers are looking to update their technology platforms to deliver services in a more efficient manner as well as to improve customer responsiveness. However, efforts to introduce automation and agility in network operations are often limited by the installed base of legacy network management tools and techniques. This can pose a liability in today’s competitive environment, where mobility, IoT, and cloud investments depend on diverse, dynamic, and distributed network architectures.

Applying model-based abstraction technologies to the management of virtualized networks is emerging as the preferred alternative to traditional means of network operations and service provisioning. Network modeling technologies such as NETCONF and YANG offer a new means of tackling primary customer business challenges and delivering improved business outcomes. Service provider innovators are increasingly adopting this new approach toward automation of network management and service provisioning to increase operational agility and scalability and better allow for customer-focused innovation.

In this special webinar, IDC will present the results of a recent custom survey, sponsored by Cisco, detailing how service providers are turning to model-based management and network automation tools. This unique research yields new insights about the level of acceptance and effects of model-based network management approaches as well as recommendations for how service providers can position themselves for success by adopting model-based automation and agility approaches to network management.

This session will also address how service providers can use the advantages of Cisco Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) enabled by Tail-f to provide end-to-end automation to design and deliver services more quickly. Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of IDC's white paper “Achieving Automation with YANG Modeling Technologies.”
